Friends of the Millstein Library Award

Introduction

The Friends of the Millstein Library are pleased to offer an award in the amount of $500.00 to a UPG graduating senior or recent graduate, who has been accepted into graduate school for the purpose of pursuing a master's degree in Library or Information Science at an ALA-accredited institution of higher learning. This award is to assist worthy and talented students entering the field of library or information science so they may help advance the field in the 21st Century.

Rationale

This award has been created to promote, encourage and advance study in the challenging fields of library and information science. It shall be awarded once a year during the Spring Term, and will be paid directly to the student.

Eligibility

Any UPG senior or recent graduate, who has been accepted into an ALA-accredited master's degree program in Library or Information Science is eligible to apply.

Selection

The Selection Committee will consist of four members of the Board of the Friends of the Millstein Library and the Director of the Millstein Library. The Committee reserves the right not give the award during any given year.

Application Procedures

Applications are available at the Millstein Library information desk or online. Each applicant must complete an application, submit a letter of acceptance from a graduate program in Library or Information Science, a current UPG transcript, and compose a 400-word essay. All application materials should be submitted in a sealed envelope. Additionally, applicants need to have a UPG faculty member send a letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope directly to the Selection Committee. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Application Deadline

All complete applications must be received by April 1.
