Janette Blackburn, FAIA, is a Principal and leader in Shepley Bulfinch’s Higher Education and Library design practice. Her work is informed by a deep understanding of library research and learning environments. Focused on the values of the institution and the potential of the library, Janette partners with communities to re-imagine the library as a place that is as inspirational as it is versatile. Her work includes transformative library designs for institutions throughout North America and the UK., including recently completed projects for Wellesley’s Clapp Library and the Countway Library at Harvard Medical School.
Janette has been elevated to Fellowship in the AIA, one of the American Institute of Architects highest honors, for her pioneering leadership in library design. Most recently, she co-authored “The Designer’s Lens: How Architects See Space” in the 2022 publication Designing Libraries for the 21st Century.
