Visiting Archives & Special Collections

Archives & Special Collections (A&SC) has two Reading Rooms available for you to visit: one on the 3rd floor of Hillman Library in Oakland and one at the Archives Service Center in the Point Breeze neighborhood. See below for more information on contacting us, when we’re open, and directions to our locations.

Preparing for Your Visit

Before you visit, you will need to create an account in the A&SC Aeon Research Portal. Once you have registered you will be able to schedule appointments and request materials and other services online. Additionally, your account will also keep track of all of the resources you’ve used and allow you to view the status of your requests. You will only need to register once but note that you will need to renew your account annually to keep it active.

All requests should be made at least 48-hours in advance of your visit. The majority of our collection is stored offsite, so we cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide same day access.

For more information about making materials requests and appointments online, please check out these How to videos for requesting archival materials and requesting materials from PittCat.

For more information on our research policies and procedures, visit Doing Research in Our Collections. Feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.

Hours

Our reading rooms are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. although these may vary depending on holidays and the university calendar.

Contact us ahead of time to be sure that we are open when you plan to visit! Please note we stop pulling materials for researchers at 4:30 p.m. View Full List of Library Hours.
