ULS acquires the archive of MacArthur “Genius” Grant Winner and Pitt Trustee Emeritus Bill Strickland

The University of Pittsburgh Library System (ULS) has acquired the archive of Pitt trustee emeritus William (Bill) E. Strickland, Jr. (A&S 1970), founder, president, and recently retired CEO of the Manchester Bidwell Corporation. While enrolled at Pitt, Strickland founded the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild (MCG) to offer a free arts program to inspire and mentor disadvantaged and at-risk youth. Enjoy a live reading of playwright Christine Bethea’s comedy exploring race, privilege, and belonging. A recipient of the August Wilson Archive Community Artist Scholar Award, Christine drew inspiration from her archive research.

Award-winning children’s author, Sharon G. Flake, donates her archive to the ULS

The University of Pittsburgh Library System is pleased to announce the acquisition of the archive of acclaimed children’s and young adult author Sharon G. Flake, the recipient of two Coretta Scott King Honors and other notable awards and recognitions. A longtime Pittsburgh resident, Flake is internationally known for gripping narratives that authentically capture the humanity of everyday teens who grapple with everything from teenage angst to making choices that can change the trajectory of their lives for better or worse. ...more
