Hillman Library Reimagined

A guiding principle for the renovation of Hillman Library is an emphasis on experiential learning,
i.e. learning by doing.

Another hands-on space is the Text & conText Lab, which features a Vandercook-proof press and provides opportunities for bookbinding, papermaking, and much more. The Text & conText Lab has hours for open “studio” time when you can drop by and try new things or continue work on projects you’ve begun. Work on your own or seek assistance from staff.

The final phase of the Hillman Renovation (underway now) will see a Data Lab, a “black box studio” Media Lab, and much more.

Hillman Library is being reimagined for a new era.

A guiding principle for the renovation of Hillman Library is an emphasis on experiential learning, i.e. learning by doing. The renovated Hillman has several of these spaces open now, with more coming online in this final phase. The spaces now include:

Open Lab: a technology-focused space where faculty, staff, students, and alums can find training and guidance using technologies like 3D printing and 3D scanning, virtual reality, laser cutting, and more.
