Owen Library Course Reserves

Finding Course Reserve Materials

  1. Go to Course Reserves
  2. Use the drop-down boxes to select your professor, department and/or your course number.
  3. Click the search box.
  4. Click on the title of the material that you need.
  5. Write down the call number.
  6. Take it to the Owen Library Circulation Desk.
  7. A library staff member will retrieve the material for you.

A list is also maintained at the Circulation Desk.

Using Reserve Materials

  • You must have a valid Pitt ID card.
  • Only 2 reserve items may be checked out at one time.
  • Print items placed on two-hour reserve (with some exceptions) may be checked out overnight two hours before the library closes, and must be returned the following morning within the first hour the library opens to avoid any fines.
  • One renewal for two-hour loans; no renewals for 1-day, 3-day or 7-day loans. If available, reserve materials can be checked out again after one hour.
  • Fines for reserve items are $1.80 per hour per item for two-hour loans and $1 per day per item for 1-day, 3-day and 7-day loan periods. There is no grace period on reserve materials.

Accessing E-Reserve Materials 

  1. Go to Course Reserves
  2. Use the drop-down boxes to select your professor.
  3. Click the search box.
  4. Click the title “*E-RESERVES*” for your course. These should be at the top of the list. 
  5. On the item record, click “E-Items: E-RESERVES LINK”.
  6. Enter the password provided by your instructor. Passwords are case-sensitive.
  7. A list of assigned readings will appear. Click the titles to access individual items. If you are off campus, you may be prompted to enter your Pitt user name and password to access some items.
